Crazy in Love

Is he "the one"?

By Josey Vogels

Dear Josey: I've recently met this guy and I can't believe how well we get along. I feel like I've known him in another life or something.

We like so many of the same things and I feel so comfortable with him. I've only known him a few weeks and even though my head knows it's crazy, I feel like I'm in love with him.

Is there any way to know if someone is ``the one?''

Crazy in Love

Dear Crazy: I'm happy that you've met such a fabulous guy. And you are undoubtedly getting a great rush from it. Who wouldn't when you connect so wonderfully with someone?

I wouldn't be so quick to call it love, however. They should come up with a new word for that drugged-like state of euphoria when you feel like your insides are going to burst and your mind involuntarily starts imagining the two of you together in your golden years sipping mint juleps on the front porch. Oh, wait, they do have a term: ``temporary insanity.''

Sorry if I seem cynical, but I've just seen too many people so eager to believe they've found love that they grab it, put it in a box and take it home before even trying it on.

And I'm not the right person to ask about how to know if someone is ``the one.'' I'm afraid I don't subscribe to that philosophy. OK, maybe I am cynical. I just think that with several billion people in the world, to believe that there is only one of them for you is a little naive. I mean, what if your ``one'' lives in Fiji?

I'd advise you to enjoy your newfound bliss, continue to work at deepening the bond with this person by trying to understand him, warts and all, and who knows - one day you'll find yourself chatting in the bathroom while he's doing his business and realize that yes, you're in love.
